Our Journey
The Workplace Depot was founded in 1991, originally trading as Central Source Ltd. Created by Ken Miller at the height of the 1991 recession, the business began with a simple but powerful mission: to make workplace essentials easier for businesses to source and manage. In a challenging economic climate, Central Source built its reputation as a reliable, catalogue-based supplier - helping organisations stay equipped, productive, and prepared.
In 2012, the company entered a bold new chapter. Under the leadership of Steve Miller, Central Source Ltd. was rebranded as The Workplace Depot - a change that represented far more than a new name. It marked a complete reinvention of the business.
Steve reimagined the company from the ground up, moving away from traditional catalogues and distributor-led supply chains to become a fully e-commerce workplace retailer. The transformation was total - so much so that none of the original business model remains, replaced by a modern approach built for speed, convenience, and customer service. Today, The Workplace Depot is known for delivering exceptional value with next-day delivery on most products, helping customers stay stocked, efficient, and ready for work, without delay.

Important Milestones
It started with one man and a bold idea. Ken Miller saw a gap between industrial manufacturers and the businesses that needed their products, and built a bridge.
Ken Miller launches Central Source LTD.
Central Source LTD moves in to Cabourn House in Bingham, Nottinghamshire.
Harris House, built by Wendy Miller and named in honour of Ron Harris, became the new headquarters for Central Source LTD.
Steve Miller launches The Workplace Depot.
The Workplace Depot relocates to Miller House, a purpose-built 95,000 square foot Nottinghamshire warehouse.
The Workplace Depot acquires a third warehouse, bringing its total warehouse capacity up to 115,000 square feet.
Recognized by the Sunday Times as one of the UK’s top 10 places to work.
The Workplace Depot now includes a fourth warehouse, boosting total capacity to 115,000 square feet.
