Plastic Column Guards
What is the purpose of a thermoplastic column guard?
A thermoplastic column guard is a cover that is placed over columns or racking in industrial workplaces to protect them from any accidental impact and damage. This type of column guard can be wrapped round all sorts of freestanding pillars as protection, or they can also be used as protection for columns which are attached to the main wall of a building. A thermoplastic column guard is a way to protect the structure of columns. If somebody accidentally knocks or scrapes a column whilst trying to manoeuvre around the space in a truck or vehicle, the presence of a column guard will limit the amount of permanent damage caused to the post and will reduce the potentially fatal effect it could have on the structural safety of the building. The vehicle that may be involved in a collision with a column or racking structure is also protected from harm. If a collision occurs then the vehicle may suffer bodywork damage or, in worse cases, damage to internal safety mechanisms. By having a column protector in place the damage done can be limited. Along with this, a column protector can prevent injury caused to a person who may be responsible for the collision. A column guard is an essential health and safety tool for any warehouse or space with column.
Where can a thermoplastic column guard be used?
A thermoplastic column guard can be used in any location where there are pillars, posts, columns or racking present. A common example of a place like this is in a car park. Car parks often have large pillars separating parking spaces and directing the traffic around the site. In a location such as a car park, as well as having columns, there are also high numbers of cars and vehicles passing through on a daily basis. The presence of cars and columns make it more likely that a crash would occur and so taking steps to protect the structure and vehicles is vital. The product is primarily and industrial product and so they are perfectly suited to a warehouse location. In warehouses there will be racking and shelving in place for storage, and it is likely that mobile objects such as trucks, trolleys and forklift trucks will be moving around the space collecting and distributing stock. With vehicles such as those mentioned trying to negotiate tight spaces around the industrial racking, accidents may occur and so it is important to install column protection. The thermoplastic column guard can be used in places where the columns may suffer heavy impacts and collisions. It is very strong and durable and passes the FEM 10.2.02 frontal impact test.
The product is sold as a kit of four separate pieces, which includes two yellow pieces and two black pieces to create an alternating black and yellow striped column guard. The column protector is made from thermoplastic materials making it durable and tough. There are no additional fixings required to assemble this tool as it is very quick and simple to connect each individual piece together and to replace each piece if desired. Each one of the individual sections measures 100mm high and so a completed column guard measures 400mm high. The thermoplastic column guard passes the FEM 10.20.02 frontal impact test. The Workplace Depot offers a standard year guarantee on all products and labour.
